Tonči Bakotin (Ruzina Frankulin)

Tonči Bakotin Ruzina is a Croatian musician in the field of electronic music. He began studying classical music during his adolescent years and afterwards, in mid 90s, he became the guitarist of the industrial noise electro-ambient music band Zidar Betonsky of Croatia. Performing all throughout Europe, he decided he needed to make a definite change in his music career and commenced composing as solo artist under the moniker Ruzina Frankulin.  Keeping his influence of new wave, Ruzina has added the romantic influence of his Mediterranean homeland along with new technology. His first international release, Electroblue (StarBaby Records, USA/FR, 2002.), brought him very accurate emotional recognition by the number of reviewers. His music was described as a fat, fuzzy, quartzy, highly synthetic sound that is bumped along by chunky, restless drum patterns that sit in the exact midpoint between electro and early drum ‘n bass (Andy Rantzen, Overload Media, August 2002). He appears on the Lagano Lagano: the finest collection of Croatian electronic music (Aquarius Records, 2000.) as well as on electronica remixes compilation American Breakbeat:Rebuilt (Klangkrieg, 2002.).
In 2013. Frankulin compiled a remix for the Integrated album Ecliptic Flare (USA).
In 2016 he produced and filmed his first experimental video film m.ocean (08’50”).
Bakotin obtained Diploma degree from the School of Audio Engineering in Rotterdam and undergraduate degree from Academy of Art in Split (Film and Video). He taught for a decade as Music and Sound Technology lecturer (Rotterdam, Singapore, Bangkok, Ljubljana, Zagreb).
